Nutrition

I had to concur my bad eating behavior along with starting to exercise.  I am completely dedicated to my exercise program but still struggle with maintaining a good eating behavior.  Now I am trying to understand how the pre and post exercise nutrition helps with reducing fat and building muscle.
My trainer lent me the book Nutrient Timing and it has helped me think about what I put in my body.  One thing I have figured out over this three year journey is the learning never stops.

Nutrient Timing: The Future of Sports Nutrition"The Three Nutrient Timing Phases
The nutrient timing system is split into three distinct phases:
1) Energy Phase (just before and during workout)
2) Anabolic Phase (post 45 minutes of workout)
3) Growth Phase (remainder of the day)
"

Exercise is a MUST

Going to the gym and hiring a personal trainer was what finally clicked for me.  My personal trainer was also my nutritionist and was the key to changing my eating behavior.  What works for me may not be what works for you.  But exercise is a key with whatever you choose.  Just don't quit until you find out what clicks.

If you choose a personal trainer find one that knows how to bring you along slowly.  It took me five months before I lost a pound but I lost inches.  I had to build my inner core and balance before progressing in my routine.  Don't give up.  I have been training for two years now and have lost 70 out of the 100 lbs I set as my goal.  In the beginning I couldn't stand on one foot.....do a squat.....or a push up.

Now I circuit train doing squats, push ups, planks, lunges, agility drills, and jog for 1 1/2 miles.
For the first time I am confident I will reach my goal.

If you are not ready for the gym there is information on line on how to get started on your own.

Choices

Going to the gym and hiring a personal trainer was what finally clicked for me.  My personal trainer was also my nutritionist and was the key to changing my eating behavior.  What works for me may not be what works for you. You will have to find out what works for you.  Just don't quit trying.View this video of a person who took a chance and did not give up.

I was considering bypass or lap band surgery.  But I realized I had to deal with the emotional side of why I eat the way I do and that lead me to the gym.  Whatever you choose, find out why you eat the way you do.
Myth:  Obese people are lazy and complacent

Mental Health

Don't expect to see results right away.  If there are emotional reasons that are deep seeded then give yourself time to bring those emotions to the surface.
      Depression and Obesity

First see your doctor.  Most likely you are depressed.  Be honest with your doctor.  Get a referral for a good therapist.  Talk to someone who you trust.  Until you let go of what is causing your bad eating behavior, you will not succeed.
I have been in counseling now for three years.  During the first year we discussed tools to help me make better choices eating but until I had really addressed those emotions I couldn't stop eating junk food. At least now I was understanding why I was making the bad choices.  It is still a battle and always will be.  But I have tools to get me on the    right track when I take a stumble.

Emotional Eating

After 30 years of trying to lose weight I am finally on the right track. I felt defeated and just about had given up knowing my health had been compromised, shortening my life.  A friend suggested counseling.  I always knew it was the mental part that kept me from succeeding but I didn't know how to get help.

Most of us eat for comfort but what are we comforting?
Mine was my inner child.  Emotionally abused as a child I used junk food as my comfort.
You can't deal with emotional eating until you find out WHY you emotionally eat.  Most of us don't want to know why.  It is painful finding out.  But it was worth the journey.

Rock Bottom

I am a Junk Food Junky.  My diet consisted of fast foods, chips, candy, doughnuts....and the list goes on.  I was at 278 lbs 5'4" quickly looking at 300 lbs.

I am a diabetic, had high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and sleep apnea..  I could hardly walk.  My children pleaded with me to do something. That is when I knew it was time.  I had to figure out why I eat the way I do.

So many of us have to same problem but suffer in silence.
